Ugg..Ugly...Ugh...

The search to replace the Ugg…

I’ll admit it, one thing I DO like about winter is the fluffy feeling of putting my feet into those forever ugly Ugg boots on my way out the door. No socks required (I think socks are look ridiculous with most pants), I don't have to sit down to put them on (seriously I do not have the time to sit or the balance to stand), they fit perfectly outside my skinny jeans (are their any other kind?) and oh did I mention that they are like walking in warm mashed potatoes?

I KNOW that they are hideous and a complete hypocrisy to everything fabulous and yet I cannot find a boot that will replace their purpose! My husband can’t wait to mock me very Fall, he’s all “hey Pamela (Anderson)” and “those are SO 1999!” Its not that I think they are stylish, I do understand that they are hideous and outdated. But what am I supposed to wear in this tundra called New York? What am I supposed to wear to school drop off?? What am I supposed to wear to hunt for our Christmas tree? One year, I tried white Patagonia puffer boots, they were ridiculous with my fur coats. I tried Hunter boots with the fleece sock…too stinky and too many parts to the puzzle first thing in the morning. I tried the Ugg Broome boots this year…but they were even more hideous because they were the Ugg boot TRYING to be the fancy boot. I literally had to send them back as fast as I could just out of sheer shame.

So I’ve been searching Zappos and Net-a-Porter, for an alternative. Although I didn’t find fabulousness in shearling, I did find a couple options that might not totally ruin my reputation.

And just so we are clear, I am not throwing away my Uggs, but I might just give them a few days off this winter. I kinda have a little panic at the thought of not having them as an option, they are my winter flip flops.

Fall for Fall? More like I got pushed.

The summer is literally draining from my body. My face is turning paler everyday, my hair three shades darker and my tan lines almost non-existent. The leaves may be getting brighter but my complexion is dreary. It happens every year at the same time, one day I’m totally fabulous and the next I feel like my body has been taken over by a ghost.

I thought that it would help to have my highlights covered up, get me into a pumpkin-carving mood. I thought that you wouldn’t notice that the ever-present glow about me was gone if the orange streaks in my hair had disappeared. Turned out that I just totally erased all signs of summer. My foundation no longer has to be mixed with “Tan” to get a perfect match, my cheeks require less peach blush and more terracotta, and the circles under my eyes have nothing to compete with any more. I feel awesome. ha.

Tanning is no longer an option, as I do really appreciate my skin being attached to body these days, and feel that I have already used up all seven of my “tanning bed” lives. So I gues that I’m left to illuminating make-up and some warm pumpkin toned attire to brighten me up...until the plane leaves for sunny Florida of course.
