Pajama Mama

So apparently you can stay in your pajamas all day…well maybe YOU can stay in YOUR pajamas all day. I however should not be seen in mine.

I am loving the pajama pant trend, they are silky smooth, flowing, and full of glamour. Pair them with a mismatched silk top, a lacey bra, statement necklace, and a suede studded flat or a hidden platform pump. You’ve got yourself a cozy, sexy outfit with all the comforts of home.

Luckily, I won’t get my “outdoor” pjs mixed up with my real ones cause my pajamas don’t look like that…
Mine are old maternity sweatpants and destination tee shirts (not even places that I have gone but rather those that my mom brings me back form her fabulous yachting trips). And then I top it all off with a fleece hot pink robe from Target with pom-poms on the hood…yes it has a hood.

Fabulous aren’t I?

I would love to pretend that I have menswear two-piece jammies trimmed with ribbon and monogramming. Or lace nighties and the silk robes to match. But the reality is, I don’t. I don’t even have an excuse! I was going to write that I couldn’t keep them pressed (which is true I hate ironing), or that I would slip all around (but I don’t have silk sheets). The truth is I would much rather wear my Elizabeth and James “pajama” pants out to dinner than to bed.

However, as Valentines Day approaches I will try for my husband’s sake to make it priority to not look like a homeless person at nighttime. Here are a few of my favorite Indoor and Outdoor Pajamas. Enjoy!

Crazy for Hip Hop

I just don't know what to say about these. When I first spotted them on models in the streets of New York I was horrified. I just chalked it up to another example of how Miranda Kerr can get away wearing anything and still look sexy.

But I have to admit, I'm intrigued by these Isabel Marant sneakers (especially now that they are sold out on net-a-porter). They apparently have a hidden wedge for extra height, they are made of soft yummy leather, and come in some fun color combinations.

Am I crazy? They kinda remind me of when people first starting wearing Uggs, they were so hideous looking but you couldn't stop yourself from finding out what the hype was about. Then you put your feet in those lamb lined clouds and you didn't take them off for three years.

An investment at $760, and I'd never hear the end of it from my husband. A fan of sneakers and Run DMC he'd never imagine that I'd go from my Loub wedges to a hipster velcro hightop. And I'm fascinated to know what the mommies at Pre-K will think of my switch. Ha, ME in sneakers?! Makes even me laugh.

Enjoy the irony and grab yourself a pair before they "run" out...or they just plain go out.

Neon lights

Brighten up the winter blahs with some updated 80's neon goodies! I put together a little outfit from Matches with some of my favorite neon pieces.

It makes me want to go to get a fake and bake tan, douse my curly locks in Aussie Crunch Spray, and safety pin my jeans. So stop being boring boring boring in your black turtleneck sweater and blue jeans and add a pop of color to boost your mood and mine!

Do Something Awesome

My “little” sister

As if I didn’t feel old enough listening to the 80’s station in the car with my little sister, not only did she not dig the Wham greatest hits montage, but she notes “I wasn’t even born yet.”

Now, my little sis is making her big move out West. She's graduated from college, a new pad in Denver and a snowboarding French boyfriend. It was 2000 when I headed out to California, for fashion school, a new pad in Brentwood, and a boyfriend that would later become my husband and father to my two little midgets.

I’ve had the pleasure of having her live across the street from me for the past 5 months; she’s been a fabulous aunty, a loving sister, and a wonderful friend. After so many years of living apart (and me leaving to sell my wild oats while she was still young) I was given such an amazing opportunity to learn from my little sister.

She has devoted herself to helping others. Again and again she has surprised me with her empathy for others and more importantly her ability to morph that empathy into change. Not many people ever DO anything about their empathy. But she has motivated others, children, and people in her community to follow through with their good intentions. All awhile she has done that with a smile, a loving hug and enthusiasm when most would give up.

Now she is moving far from home, to grow, to experience and to build a company out of her heart. She is starting a non-profit documentary film company devoted to education and social change.

This is my “little” sister. She sounds pretty BIG doesn’t she?

Everyone should be an advocate for change, social change, change in your community or even your own little family. As my little sister says, “What? You don’t think I can do that? Watch, I’m gonna do something awesome.” Go girl, head out West and be awesome.

Love and miss you.
